Spotify Integrates AI Agents as Qobuz Rejects AI Audio
Spotify is integrating AI assistants to route user requests while competitor Qobuz criticizes AI-generated music as fraud to attract human-centric listeners.
Spotify co-CEO Gustav Söderström announced a strategy to integrate AI assistants as intermediaries that route user requests to the company's music catalog. Under this model, external agents such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Meta’s Muse handle initial user requests, while Spotify retains control over final audio selection and the use of listener data. Söderström noted that this integration could enable personalized podcasts and running mixes tuned to a user's cadence and listening history.
In contrast, Qobuz is positioning itself against the rise of AI-generated audio by emphasizing human curation and high-fidelity sound. Qobuz Managing Director Dan Mackta criticized AI-created songs, describing them as fraud and music-esque content. This strategy coincides with a market shift where some users are migrating away from Spotify; Qobuz reported a 45.7% revenue increase in 2025.
The tension over AI audio extends across the industry, with Deezer reporting that it receives 90,000 AI-generated songs per day.
