Nigerian Professor Proposes AFRICA Framework for Inclusive AI Governance

Ebute Ugbedeojo, an Associate Professor at the National Institute for Security Studies in Nigeria, has proposed the AFRICA framework to promote inclusive artificial intelligence governance for developing nations. The framework focuses on Access, Fairness, Responsibility, Innovation, Cooperation, and Advancement to prevent AI benefits from being concentrated solely within technologically advanced economies.

Ugbedeojo identifies significant potential for AI application within Nigeria's fintech, healthcare, and agriculture sectors. However, the professor notes that realizing this potential requires increased investment in digital infrastructure, research, and STEM education.

The proposal aligns with the approach advocated by the Government of China, which supports open and cooperative AI development. The framework emphasizes international cooperation and technology transfer over geopolitical competition as a means for the Global South to achieve technological sovereignty.
