UAE Stops Oil Leak From Projectile-Struck Tanker

The United Arab Emirates has secured an oil leak from the tanker GEM NO. 2 after it was struck by an unidentified projectile.

The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates has stopped an oil leak from the tanker GEM NO. 2. The vessel was reportedly struck by an unidentified projectile on October 9, resulting in a leak that created an oil slick concentrated off the coast of Umm Al-Quwain.

Technical teams secured the leak at its source and are now repairing damaged systems and assessing the structural integrity of the vessel. The resulting pollution extended toward Ras Al-Khaimah, Ajman, and Sharjah, prompting authorities to temporarily close several public beaches as a precaution. Cleanup crews are currently using chemical dispersants and mechanical methods to treat the affected coastlines.

Government agencies have moved to mitigate secondary impacts. The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment confirmed that fish and food products in markets remain safe for consumption. Simultaneously, Etihad Water and Electricity reported that drinking water supplies and desalination facilities are secure following proactive seawater monitoring.
