KLM and Emirates Expand Airbus A350 Fleet Deployments
KLM launched its first commercial Airbus A350 flight to Toronto, while Emirates announced A350 deployment for Dubai-Durban services starting March 2027.
Major international carriers are expanding their Airbus A350 fleets to improve efficiency and cabin offerings. KLM Royal Dutch Airlines launched its first commercial Airbus A350-900 passenger flight on November 2, 2026, traveling from Amsterdam Schiphol to Toronto. The aircraft, named De Nachtwacht, carried passengers and eight metric tonnes of cargo as part of a fleet renewal programme aimed at reducing fuel consumption, emissions, and noise.
Following the Toronto inaugural service, KLM plans to deploy the A350 on routes to Montreal, Kilimanjaro, Dar es Salaam, Nairobi, and Zanzibar.
Simultaneously, Emirates announced it will deploy Airbus A350 aircraft on its daily service between Dubai and Durban starting March 1, 2027. The aircraft will feature 298 seats across business, premium economy, and economy classes. This move standardizes the premium economy cabin across all Emirates flights to South Africa, following previous introductions on routes to Cape Town and Johannesburg in September 2025.
Emirates, the sole scheduled operator on the Dubai-Durban route, is integrating the A350 as part of a broader rollout that includes services to Orlando, Nairobi, and Mauritius. The airline reported receiving 11 A350 deliveries throughout 2026.
