David Maraga Alleges Corruption in Police Uniform Procurement

Former Chief Justice David Maraga challenged the transparency of the procurement process for Kenya's new police uniforms, alleging that the implementation of reforms has been characterized by corruption and secrecy. Maraga, who chaired the Task Force on Police Reforms, stated that while changing the uniforms was one of over 200 recommendations in his report, the execution of that specific recommendation was opaque.

The National Police Service responded by denying reports that linked Nalitex Limited to the process, asserting the company had no role in the development, selection, procurement, or manufacture of the uniforms. The agency confirmed that the contract was lawfully awarded to Bedi Investments Limited following a legal procurement process.

Officials from the National Police Service defended the decision to replace the General Duty uniform, citing widespread dissatisfaction among police officers as the primary driver for the change.
