Nigerian Security Forces Rescue 21 Abductees in South-East

Nigerian security agencies rescued 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps members and one other person following an intelligence-led operation in the South-East.

Nigerian security forces rescued 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps members and one other abducted individual in the South-East region. The operation was a coordinated effort involving the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Department of State Services.

Mohamed Buba Marwa, Chairman and CEO of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, praised the rescue as a victory for the nation and a demonstration of the professionalism and unity of the security architecture. He stated that the safe return of the victims is a "testament to the courage, professionalism and unity of purpose" of the agencies involved.

Marwa linked the prevalence of kidnapping and banditry to drug trafficking and abuse, asserting that where drugs flow, insecurity thrives. He pledged that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency will continue to deepen intelligence-sharing and joint operations with other security agencies to dismantle the criminal networks that fund and fuel violence in the region.
