Lam Research Invests $3 Billion to Expand Global R&D
Lam Research Corp. will invest over $3 billion over five years to expand its global R&D network and accelerate AI semiconductor innovation.
Lam Research Corp. announced plans to invest more than $3 billion over the next five years to expand its global research and development lab network. The multi-site expansion, starting this year, aims to increase experiment capacity by more than 50% across facilities in the United States, Asia, and Europe.
The company intends to accelerate the innovation cycle for semiconductor chips, which require new architectures and materials to support the AI era. Lam Research reports that its current R&D approach has already shortened process development by up to 2.5 times in recent customer engagements.
Micron Technology expressed support for the investment, noting the collaboration's role in advancing memory and storage solutions for the AI ecosystem. Tim Archer, CEO of Lam Research, stated that the ability to increase velocity throughout the R&D process has become a decisive advantage.
