BKU-Rajewal Protests Proposed India-US Trade Agreement in Chandigarh
The Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU-Rajewal) held a motorcycle rally in Chandigarh to demand the cancellation of a proposed trade deal with the United States.
The Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU-Rajewal) organized a motorcycle rally and protest march in Chandigarh on July 13, 2026, to demand the cancellation of a proposed India-US trade agreement. Protesters argued that the deal unfairly favors American farmers and multinational companies, which they claim threatens the livelihoods of small-scale Indian farmers and the dairy sector.
To manage the influx of supporters from Mohali, the Chandigarh traffic police implemented road diversions and restrictions from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm. The disruptions affected major intersections including South End Chowk and Piccadilly Chowk, and forced local institutions like St. Stephen’s school to close early.
BKU-Rajewal leader Balbir Singh Rajewal warned that nationwide protests will occur if the bilateral trade agreement is signed. As an immediate escalation, he announced that all tolls on roads in Punjab will be made free for two hours on July 17. These actions follow similar demonstrations on July 10 led by the BKU (Ekta Ugrahan) and other groups protesting rising fuel prices.
