Sarrah Storey Becomes President of Union of B.C. Municipalities
Sarrah Storey assumed the presidency of the Union of B.C. Municipalities after incumbent Jenna Stoner lost her mayoral bid in Squamish.
The Union of B.C. Municipalities appointed Sarrah Storey as its new president following a wave of municipal election losses across British Columbia. Storey, previously the organization's first vice-president, took over the role after incumbent Jenna Stoner lost her mayoral bid in Squamish during the October 17 elections. Stoner had served as president for only one month, having been elected by acclamation in September.
The leadership turnover extended to the second vice-presidency, as Aimee Grice also departed the organization after losing a mayoral race in Oliver. These departures reflect a broader trend of incumbents losing municipal seats throughout the province.
Storey stated that the organization's policy priorities will remain unchanged despite the change in leadership. However, she expressed a desire for the incoming B.C. Conservative provincial government to avoid a "one-size-fits-all approach" to housing regulations. Storey also called for a reduction in the use of restrictive non-disclosure agreements during consultations with local officials, noting that previous wording was sometimes "a little too restrictive."
