Google to Move All Pixel Production Out of China
Google plans to relocate all Pixel smartphone, smartwatch, and earbud manufacturing to Vietnam and India by 2027 to reduce reliance on China.
Google plans to relocate the production of its entire Pixel line, including smartphones, smartwatches, and wireless earbuds, entirely out of China by 2027. The company intends to diversify its supply chain by expanding manufacturing capacity in Vietnam and India to mitigate risks associated with tensions between Washington and Beijing. This transition follows the successful production of high-end Pixel devices, including the Pixel 11, in Vietnam during 2026.
Vietnam currently serves as the primary manufacturing hub, accounting for 63% of Pixel production in 2025, while China accounted for 34%. India's share was lower at 3% in 2025, but Google is expanding Indian assembly operations through partners such as Foxconn and Dixon Technologies. If successful, Google will be the second major global smartphone brand to fully shift handset production away from China after Samsung Electronics.
Simultaneously, Google aims to increase Pixel shipments by 8% to 10% in 2026, targeting approximately 13 million units compared to 12 million in 2025. The company intends to use this growth to drive more users toward its Gemini artificial intelligence services. To offset rising memory chip costs, Google is consolidating semiconductor procurement by bundling chip orders for its cloud-computing business with those for its hardware to increase negotiating leverage with suppliers including Micron Technology, Samsung Electronics, and SK Hynix.
