Winston Requests Federal Probe Into USPS Delivery Failures

The City of Winston, Oregon, is requesting a federal investigation into the United States Postal Service (USPS) after more than a year of systemic mail delivery failures in the 97496 ZIP code. Mayor Christie Knutson and City Manager Thomas McIntosh sent a formal letter on August 28 to U.S. Representative Val Hoyle and Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden, reporting a pattern of misdelivered mail and packages falsely marked as delivered.

City officials highlighted the loss of time-sensitive items, including prescription medications. The delivery issues have had economic impacts, including the relocation of a local business, Vital Signs NW, to Texas due to shipping failures. Representative Val Hoyle has since issued an official referral to the USPS to investigate the claims.

The USPS stated it is reviewing the matter but claimed the city's complaints lacked the specific tracking and address information required to pinpoint individual delivery events.
