India and Pakistan Exchange Protests After Border Shooting

India and Pakistan summoned each other's diplomats after the Indian Border Security Force killed two Pakistani nationals during a disputed border encounter on October 2.

India and Pakistan exchanged diplomatic protests on October 3 and 4 after the Indian Border Security Force shot and killed two Pakistani nationals and wounded a third near the international border in Punjab. The incident occurred on October 2 in an area identified by Pakistan as the Bedian sector of Kasur and by India as the Ferozepur sector.

Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned India's Chargé d'Affaires, identifying the deceased as Azmat Rasool and Mohsin Jutt, unarmed civilians from Ladhar village. Islamabad characterized the shooting as "unprovoked lethal force" that was "wholly unjustified and grossly disproportionate," demanding a transparent investigation and legal action against those responsible.

India's Ministry of External Affairs subsequently summoned the Chargé d'Affaires of the Pakistan High Commission, dismissing Pakistan's claims as "baseless and motivated." Indian officials asserted that the individuals were infiltrators who ignored multiple warnings to return to Pakistan and posed an "imminent security threat." New Delhi linked the encounter to a pattern of cross-border movement by armed narcotics syndicates and urged Pakistan to investigate the complicity of its own border-guarding forces in drug smuggling.

Bhavika Mangalanandan of India's UN Mission further accused Pakistan of sponsoring cross-border terrorism to distract from domestic discontent. The diplomatic clash follows a period of severe military confrontation in 2025 and recent disputes over the killing of a Lashkar-e-Taiba commander in Kashmir.
