NDA Sweeps Karnataka Council Polls and Leads in Bihar

The National Democratic Alliance achieved a clean sweep in Karnataka Legislative Council elections and secured key seats in Bihar, framing the results as mandates for 2028.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured a dominant victory in the Karnataka Legislative Council biennial elections, achieving a 4-0 clean sweep across two Graduates' and two Teachers' constituencies. In the North-East Teachers Constituency, BJP candidate Shashil G. Namoshi defeated Congress rival Sharanappa Mattur by 3,297 votes to win the seat for a fifth time. In the Bengaluru Teachers Constituency, alliance candidate AP Ranganath defeated the incumbent Congress candidate Puttanna. Following the sweep, the BJP mocked Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on social media, while leaders like BS Yediyurappa and Nikhil Kumar described the result as a rejection of Congress misrule and a trailer for the 2028 Assembly elections.

Simultaneously, the NDA took an early lead in the Bihar Legislative Council elections for eight seats. The BJP won the Tirhut Teachers' seat with candidate Narendra Prasad Singh, though the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) claimed the Patna Teacher seat and Jan Suraaj won the Darbhanga Teacher seat. The Bihar contests were marked by internal friction within the Janata Dal (United), which suspended MLA Anant Singh for six years after he campaigned against the party's official nominee in the Patna Graduates' contest. Anant Singh later conceded defeat in that race, which saw nearly 10 percent of votes invalidated.

Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy characterized the Karnataka results as a victory of truth over falsehood. In Bihar, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary congratulated the RJD candidate on their victory in Patna.
