Indraprastha Gas Raises CNG Prices in Delhi-NCR

Indraprastha Gas Limited increased the price of compressed natural gas (CNG) by Rs 3.89 per kg across Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) effective 6:00 AM on August 29, 2026. In Delhi, the price rose to Rs 86.98 per kg, while rates in Noida and Ghaziabad reached Rs 95.59, Gurugram hit Rs 92.01, and Meerut reached Rs 95.47. This represents the fifth price increase this year.

The company attributed the hike to surging international liquefied natural gas (LNG) spot prices, which nearly doubled since July 2026. IGL cited the re-escalation of conflict in West Asia, disrupted cargo movements through the Strait of Hormuz, and increased European winter storage demand as the primary drivers. IGL described the move as a "calibrated revision" necessary to ensure the reliability of supplies while insulating domestic consumers from full market volatility.

Transport bodies reacted swiftly to the increase. Rajendra Soni, representing the Auto Rickshaw Association and Delhi Pradesh Taxi Union, demanded that the Government of Delhi increase auto and taxi fares within one week or provide a CNG subsidy. Soni threatened a strike on September 9 if these demands are not met. Additionally, the All India Motor and Goods Transport Association warned that the hike would increase the cost of essential commodities and place a financial burden on the common man.
