ExxonMobil Moçambique issued a letter of intent to McDermott Energy Solutions for engineering and procurement services for the Rovuma LNG project in Mozambique.

ExxonMobil Moçambique issued a letter of intent to McDermott Energy Solutions (UK) for limited engineering and procurement services for the Rovuma LNG phase one midstream project. The contract supports project definition and planning as partners work toward a final investment decision expected in 2026.

The onshore development will feature 12 modular liquefaction modules with a production capacity of 18.6 million tonnes per annum, with a projected start-up in 2031. Engineering will be conducted from McDermott offices in London and Gurgaon, while project management will be handled by the SMDC joint venture team in Milan. The SMDC joint venture includes McDermott, Saipem, Daewoo Engineering & Construction, and China Petroleum Engineering & Construction Corporation.

The Rovuma LNG project represents the largest single investment for ExxonMobil and is projected to generate approximately $150 billion in revenue for the Government of Mozambique over its 30-year lifespan. McDermott executives stated the award reflects a long-standing relationship with ExxonMobil and the company's established expertise in the region.
