Retail Shareholder Platform ACT Demands Samsung Electronics Buybacks
ACT launched a campaign to force an extraordinary shareholders' meeting at Samsung Electronics to secure a 45.5 trillion won share buyback program.
ACT, a South Korean retail shareholder platform, launched a campaign on August 4, 2026, to convene an extraordinary shareholders' meeting at Samsung Electronics. To meet the 3% ownership threshold required for the meeting, the platform is soliciting electronic signatures and seeking support from asset managers and the National Pension Service.
The campaign demands a share buyback program totaling 45.5 trillion won, or approximately $31.79 billion, and the implementation of shareholder-approved limits on performance bonuses tied to operating profits. ACT argues that rules governing large-scale bonus payouts should not be determined solely by the company's board.
These demands follow a significant decline in Samsung Electronics' share price, which has lost more than one-third of its value since June.
