Bob McGrew Launches AI Startup Arda With $230 Million
Bob McGrew launched Arda, an AI startup that raised $230 million to automate assembly line design and onshore manufacturing to the United States.
Bob McGrew, a former research chief at OpenAI and product lead at Palantir, has launched Arda, an AI startup designed to automate and accelerate U.S. manufacturing. The company raised $230 million in a funding round led by Altimeter Capital, Accel, and Khosla Ventures, giving the startup a valuation of $1.5 billion.
Arda develops AI software and agents that enable manufacturing engineers to build and adapt assembly lines more rapidly than traditional automation. McGrew noted that while humans can be retrained in a day following a design change, updating traditional automation typically takes three to six months. The software is already deployed with the military technology company Anduril.
McGrew intends to integrate AI with future robotics to onshore production and create American jobs, aligning with the Trump administration's goals to bring manufacturing back to the United States. He specifically highlighted the potential for domestic smartphone assembly as a way to bring jobs back to the country.
