Arkansas Candidates Hold Final Rallies Before Midterm Elections
Republican and Democratic candidates held competing rallies across Arkansas on November 2 ahead of midterm elections featuring high early voter turnout.
Republican Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders and U.S. Senator Tom Cotton held final campaign events in Rogers and Little Rock on November 2, the last day of campaigning before the midterm elections. The Republican platform focused on tax cuts, education reform, and opposition to Democratic policies.
Simultaneously, Democratic candidates Hallie Shoffner and Chris Jones held a rally in Little Rock. Their campaign emphasized the need for political change and focused on affordability, specifically citing high gas prices and the cost of living.
Secretary of State Cole Jester reported that over 500,000 Arkansans voted early. He predicted a turnout of at least 50% of the state's 1.8 million registered voters. In addition to candidate races, voters are deciding on several ballot measures, including a constitutional amendment to prohibit noncitizens from voting in state and local elections. The National Weather Service has issued severe weather forecasts that may impact Election Day activities.
