Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Accuses Elites of Using AI to Hoard Wealth

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez criticized the influence of wealthy elites and corporations over the development of artificial intelligence during a Students vs. Billionaires town hall meeting in Ithaca, New York, in late September.

Ocasio-Cortez argued that the elite intend to use AI to "wipe out all of our livelihoods" and hoard resources for themselves. She framed the transition to AI as a mechanism for the wealthy to maintain control over riches while the world becomes increasingly physically unstable.

Additionally, the congresswoman claimed that these actors are consuming and burning energy at a pace that is "completely unsustainable" to maintain their position of power.
