AI Startup Fal Raises $1.3 Billion at $16 Billion Valuation

AI inference startup Fal raised $1.3 billion to expand computing power and its workforce after a surge in customer demand.

Fal, a San Francisco-based AI inference startup, raised $1.3 billion in October at a $16 billion valuation. The funding round was led by Bessemer Venture Partners, with participation from Nvidia Corp., Sound Ventures, HOF Capital, and T. Rowe Price Group Inc.

This valuation doubles the company's worth from six months prior, when it raised $350 million in a Sequoia-led round at an $8 billion valuation. The company reported $800 million in annualized revenue earlier this year and currently focuses on hosting and post-training image, video, and audio models for creators and developers.

Chief Executive Officer and co-founder Burkay Gur stated the capital is necessary to acquire more computing power. He noted that the company hit a point in summer where they were not able to serve customers and had to rate limit them. Fal intends to use the new funds to procure compute and expand its 185-person team.
