France Launches 450 Million Euro Energy Aid Package
The Government of France introduced a 450 million euro relief package to help citizens and businesses manage soaring energy costs caused by the Iran war.
The Government of France introduced an aid package estimated at 450 million euros to support citizens and industries struggling with soaring energy costs. The economic crisis was triggered by the start of the Iran war on February 28, which caused fuel and heating oil prices to spike, particularly affecting small businesses like food trucks and bakeries, as well as rural communities.
The relief measures provide energy bill assistance ranging from 48 to 277 euros for 5.8 million families. Additionally, the package includes subsidies for commuters who travel at least 15 kilometers to reach their workplace.
While the state implements these subsidies, lawmaker Christine Loir is lobbying for further interventions. Loir is pushing for lower taxes on heating oil to ensure rural residents do not have to choose between food and heat.
