Indian Gold Prices Decline Amid Market Volatility

Gold prices in India declined across major cities in mid-October, driven by global economic risks and geopolitical tensions despite anticipatory festival demand.

Gold prices in India experienced a downward trend and subsequent volatility between October 13 and October 15, 2026. On October 13, prices fell across most major cities, with 22-carat gold dropping by ₹155 to ₹13,765 per gram and 24-carat gold decreasing by ₹163 per gram. Regional disparities were evident, as prices in Bhubaneswar and Patna remained the highest, while cities like Coimbatore and Visakhapatnam recorded the lowest rates.

By October 15, the market showed continued fluctuation. Some reports indicated a further decline in metro cities, with 22-carat gold averaging ₹13,595 per gram. However, other data showed higher rates for 24-karat gold, ranging between ₹1,47,220 and ₹1,47,880 per 10 grams in hubs such as Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai. Silver prices remained steady at ₹2,09,640 per kg.

Major retail chains including Tanishq, Malabar Gold & Diamonds, and Joyalukkas maintained independent pricing structures, with 22K gold listed between ₹13,515 and ₹13,635 per gram. Market analysts attribute this volatility to a combination of high interest rates, global economic risks, and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, balanced against increased demand for upcoming festivals.
