United States Imposes 50% Tariffs on Canadian Aluminum

The Federal government of the United States imposed 50% tariffs on aluminum products from Canada on Tuesday. The decision follows the collapse of trade negotiations between the two nations last month.

This measure removes previous tariff exemptions for specific aluminum goods. When combined with a 50% tariff rate on foreign supplies established last year, the total levy reaches 100% for some products.

Canadian aluminum fabricators warn that these tariffs make their products uncompetitive in the U.S. market. Industry representatives state the measures will effectively eliminate their sales to the United States.
