Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon Backs Fostering the Future Campaign

Governor Mark Gordon announced Wyoming will implement Trump Accounts to provide tax-advantaged savings and asset protection for foster children.

Governor Mark Gordon announced on July 7 that Wyoming will support the Fostering the Future campaign, an initiative led by First Lady Melania Trump. The program introduces Trump Accounts, which are federally backed, tax-advantaged savings accounts designed to provide structured savings and asset protection for foster children to help break intergenerational cycles of poverty.

Gordon is collaborating with the Wyoming Department of Family Services to ensure that appropriate benefits for youth in foster care are deposited into these accounts. The state agency is currently developing policies to safeguard the funds when legal custody changes. Once a child reaches the age of 18, the distribution of the accounts is generally permitted and taxed as ordinary income.
