Kuwait Condemns Iranian Strikes on Water and Power Plants

The Government of Kuwait condemned a series of attacks by Iran on July 18 and 19, 2026, targeting critical civilian infrastructure. The strikes focused on a power generation and water desalination plant, which was hit twice in two days, resulting in fires and severe damage to multiple power generation units. The Kuwait Ministry of Defence reported that the Kuwaiti Armed Forces intercepted hostile ballistic missiles and drones entering national airspace on Sunday.

Kuwaiti officials described the strikes as heinous Iranian aggression and a violation of international law and the UN Charter. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs characterized the incidents as a systematic aggressive approach and a grave threat to civilian security. In response, the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy activated emergency plans to stabilize the national power grid and prevent water shortages while the Kuwait Fire Force worked to contain the facility blazes.

These events occurred amid a broader regional escalation involving the United States, which reportedly targeted Iranian water facilities in Hormozgan province and Qeshm Island. Kuwait has held Iran fully responsible for the consequences of the strikes and asserted its right to take all necessary measures for self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter.
