Tinubu Coordinates APC Primaries as Yobe Endorses Second Term

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu met with 31 All Progressives Congress (APC) governors at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on April 23 and 24, 2026, to coordinate the party's upcoming primaries. Tinubu directed the governors to ensure the internal elections are free, fair, and transparent to maintain party stability ahead of the 2027 general elections. He affirmed that states may use either consensus or direct voting in accordance with the Electoral Act, a decision that followed discussions with Senate leadership regarding concerns that consensus arrangements were being used to sideline some lawmakers.

In Yobe State, APC stakeholders in Damaturu unanimously endorsed Tinubu for a second term and adopted a consensus model for governorship and assembly primaries to prevent internal conflict. Former Senate President Ahmed Lawan pledged that the state would deliver 3.5 million votes for the president. Similarly, APC leaders in Edo State, including Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa and lawmaker Andrew Uzamere, began grassroots mobilization in Benin City to meet a goal of delivering 2.5 million votes for the president.

Concurrent with these APC activities, presidential hopeful Peter Obi led a South-East delegation to Bauchi to meet with Governor Bala Mohammed. The visit sought to build partnerships and promote national unity, with Obi soliciting support for a power shift from the current administration. Governor Mohammed described himself as a freelance politician, focusing the discussions on national development over party affiliations.
