Han Zheng Outlines Four Key Actions for Global Development Initiative

Chinese Vice President Han Zheng addressed the High-Level Dialogue on the Fifth Anniversary of the Global Development Initiative (GDI) on September 25, 2026, at the United Nations headquarters. During the event, Han read a congratulatory letter from President Xi Jinping and stated that China is ready to work with all parties to advance the GDI and uphold multilateralism to deliver development benefits globally.

Han described the GDI, which Xi Jinping originally proposed in 2021, as a common international endeavor that supports the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. To further this goal, he proposed four key actions: prioritizing the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals, pursuing practical infrastructure cooperation projects, expanding collaboration in the digital economy and artificial intelligence, and strengthening partnerships through the Group of Friends of the GDI.

The dialogue included remarks from UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed and leaders from Laos, Pakistan, and the Maldives. Representatives from more than 60 countries attended the session.
