President Tinubu Approves Major Road and Bridge Projects Nationwide
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the dualisation of South-East highways, an extension of the Fourth Legacy Highway, and various bridge constructions across Nigeria.
Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved a series of strategic infrastructure projects focused on regional integration and national connectivity. In the South-East, the president authorized the design and procurement for the dualisation of two critical roads: the 108-kilometre Otuocha–Anam–Abaji Road linking Anambra and Kogi states, and the 150-kilometre Oba–Nnewi–Uga–Ihube Road connecting Anambra, Imo, and Abia states to the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway.
Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo announced these approvals on July 16, stating the roads are critical game-changers for the South-East, South-South, and North-Central regions. Soludo framed the investment as a historic step toward healing the wounds of the Nigerian Civil War.
Broadening the scope of national works, the president extended the Fourth Legacy Highway by 400 kilometres, increasing its total length to 1,100 kilometres to reach Taraba State. Other authorized projects include the dualisation of 400 kilometres of the East-West Road from Lokoja to Benin, the construction of the Lau Bridge in Taraba, and the completion of the Ibi Bridge.
Additionally, the government authorized the reconstruction of a 135-kilometre section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway using reinforced concrete pavement. Minister of Works David Umahi also announced that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway has been renamed the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Coastal Highway.
