Mark Carney Announces Canada Investment Summit to Attract $1 Trillion
Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the inaugural Canada Investment Summit in Toronto to mobilize 1 trillion Canadian dollars for nation-building projects over five years.
Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the creation of the inaugural Canada Investment Summit, scheduled for September 14 and 15 in Toronto. The summit aims to attract 1 trillion Canadian dollars in investment over the next five years to fund nation-building projects in sectors such as artificial intelligence, clean energy, and critical minerals.
This federal strategy will mobilize capital through a combination of private investment, institutional funding, and approximately 280 billion Canadian dollars in public spending. The government is partnering with the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and the Public Sector Pension Investment Board to host the event. The initiative follows a year of international diplomatic efforts by the prime minister to revitalize interest in the Canadian economy, which has faced disruptions from U.S. tariffs and rising gas prices associated with the Iran war.
Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu stated the event signals Canada's intent to be a serious economic partner during a period of unprecedented trade disruption. While the Canadian Federation of Independent Business reports a struggling small business sector, RBC projects the country could attract up to 1.8 trillion dollars over ten years by leveraging energy infrastructure and critical minerals.
