Congress and BJP Trade Accusations Over Jharkhand Student Protests

Student protests over recruitment examination irregularities in Jharkhand have sparked a political confrontation between the Indian National Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Students are demanding a formal federal investigation into the recruitment process, while the state government led by Hemant Soren faces increasing criticism over the irregularities.

Congress leader K.C. Venugopal accused the BJP of transporting supporters from West Bengal in trucks to artificially inflate the size of the demonstrations. Venugopal shared video evidence alleging that the BJP Yuva Morcha was brought in to hijack a movement originally led by students. In response, the BJP has used the irregularities to attack the state government and accused the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) of hypocrisy. BJP spokesperson Keya Ghosh claimed the CJP acted as a mute spectator in Jharkhand, contrasting this with their previous leadership of protests in New Delhi that forced the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

While the Congress party is part of the state administration, leaders including Rahul Gandhi have condemned the use of water cannons, tear gas, and lathi charges by police to disperse the crowds. Gandhi stated that students have a right to peaceful protest. The BJP has questioned why Gandhi has not visited the protest sites, while CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke has also criticized the police brutality against the demonstrators.
