Gina Hinojosa Campaign Faces Penalties Over Social Media Disclosures

The Gina Hinojosa campaign faces potential fines for failing to include required disclosures on hundreds of paid social media posts in Texas.

The campaign of Gina Hinojosa, the Democratic nominee for governor of Texas, is under scrutiny for failing to include mandatory disclosures on hundreds of paid social media posts. Texas law requires disclaimers on paid political advertisements on social media, a regulation the Hinojosa campaign may have violated.

Campaign Director Amy Friedman stated that the campaign hired Politiclip, a third-party marketing firm, to grow Hinojosa's audience and name recognition. Friedman claimed the campaign had no direct authorization of the specific posts in question. Politiclip was paid 150,000 dollars to amplify narratives through content creators. Legal experts indicate these omissions could result in penalties of up to 4,000 dollars from the Texas Ethics Commission.

Politiclip has provided similar services to other candidates, including Nithya Raman in Los Angeles, where the firm complied with California transparency laws. Meanwhile, coordinated social media posts supporting Republican candidates Ken Paxton and Greg Abbott have appeared with tags such as #ad or #sp, suggesting paid efforts. The campaign of Ken Paxton has denied any involvement in those posts, which are linked to the LLM/DCW Media network.
