Russia Threatens Energy Strikes After Deadly Warehouse Attack

The Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation announced preparations for massive strikes against Ukraine's energy sector, framing the move as retaliation for Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil and energy infrastructure. This threat follows a period of intense escalation, including a Russian strike on an ammunition warehouse in Myla, west of Kyiv, which President Volodymyr Zelenskyy identified as the deadliest attack of the year with 38 confirmed dead.

Further Russian strikes in Kyiv and Bilbasovka caused additional civilian casualties, including a 2-year-old girl and a 13-year-old. Simultaneously, Ukraine conducted missile attacks in Belgorod and the Luhansk region, resulting in three deaths.

Amidst the violence, Volodymyr Zelenskyy is preparing for talks with representatives of U.S. President Donald Trump to explore alternatives to continued warfare. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian government is seeking to accelerate a European Union loan to address a $27 billion budget deficit.
