India Denies Telangana Chief Minister's Official US Visit

The Ministry of External Affairs of India denied permission for A Revanth Reddy, the Chief Minister of Telangana, to undertake an official visit to the United States. The decision led to a sharp confrontation between the state government and the central administration.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Ministry of External Affairs, alleging the denial was based on political reasons. He claimed the central government feared that Telangana might surpass Gujarat in attracting foreign investments. Telangana Minister D Sridhar Babu supported this view, questioning the partisan attitude of the Centre and asking if Telangana did not form part of the Union of States of India.

Defending the decision, BJP leader Bandaru Vijayalakshmi stated that the trip was cancelled because the state government failed to provide specific reasoning for the visit. She further questioned the actual development outcomes of the Chief Minister's previous foreign engagements, arguing that other state models, such as Gujarat, showed more infrastructure development than the agreements touted by the Telangana government.
