Joy O'Donnell Seeks Liberal Nomination for Brantford-Brant By-Election

Joy O'Donnell announced on August 8, 2026, that she is seeking the federal Liberal nomination for the riding of Brantford-Brant South-Six Nations. The bid follows the announcement that Conservative Member of Parliament Larry Brock will resign his seat effective September 18.

O'Donnell, the president of the Chamber of Commerce Brantford-Brant and owner of Grand Financial Planning, previously challenged Brock in the April 2025 election, where she finished second with 41.1% of the vote. She submitted her nomination package to the Liberal Party in June and stated her campaign team is ready to begin operations.

In her announcement, O'Donnell expressed support for Prime Minister Mark Carney's government. She emphasized the need to address current economic uncertainties and the specific impact of Trump tariffs on local businesses and residents within the community.
