Bill Maher Accuses Democratic Socialists of America of Promoting Communism

Bill Maher claimed the Democratic Socialists of America are communists and stated his vote is in play as the organization grows within the Democratic Party.

Television host Bill Maher accused the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) of promoting communism during recent broadcasts of his HBO show, Real Time. Maher argued that the organization and its affiliated candidates seek to seize the means of production and property, citing the DSA platform and the Marxist Unity Group's commitment to a classless society. He specifically pointed to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and aide Cea Weaver as examples of figures embracing these ideals.

Maher stated his vote is now in play, asserting he will not support candidates who believe the wrong side won the Cold War. These criticisms align with views expressed by President Donald Trump in June, who described democratic socialism as one of the most significant threats to the United States since its founding.

In response, DSA co-chair Ashik Siddique and Mayor Mamdani defended the movement. They characterized the organization's goals as a collective effort to transform society and argued that democratic socialists can successfully win elections for any position across the country.
