Trump's Board of Peace Fund Holds Zero Dollars Four Months After Launch

Donald Trump's Board of Peace, launched in January 2026 in Switzerland to oversee Gaza's postwar reconstruction, holds zero dollars in its official World Bank fund four months after its inauguration. Despite $17 billion in pledges from the United States, the European Union, and several Arab states — including a $10 billion commitment from Trump himself — no donor has deposited money into the transparent, independently overseen account. The U.S. State Department has also failed to disburse $1.2 billion earmarked for related projects.

Instead, donors have routed funds through a JPMorgan Chase account controlled directly by the board, bypassing the transparency and oversight requirements of the World Bank facility, which the United Nations endorsed. Only modest contributions from Morocco, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates have reached this alternative account, and those funds are reportedly frozen or have not translated into active reconstruction. The limited money available has covered operational costs and salaries for the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, a Palestinian technocratic body providing transitional governance under the board's supervision.

Reconstruction remains stalled as the board confronts a liquidity crisis against an estimated $71 billion requirement. Board of Peace Director General Nickolay Mladenov attributed the plan's failure to Hamas's refusal to disarm. Implementation is further hindered by a regional war between the United States and Iran, ongoing ceasefire violations in Gaza, and diplomatic tensions that have kept major donors from committing funds through official channels.
