Odisha Unveils Silicon Valley Hub at Semicon India 2026

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi unveiled the Odisha Silicon Valley at the Semicon India 2026 summit in New Delhi, announcing a dedicated 870-acre semiconductor, electronics, and IT hub in Naraj, Cuttack district. The Government of Odisha has approved five manufacturing projects totaling Rs 10,899 crore, including investments from SiCSem, Heterogeneous Integration Packaging Solutions, RIR Power Electronics, Sancode Technologies, and ASP Semicon. These projects are expected to create over 4,500 direct and 16,000 indirect jobs.

To accelerate growth, Odisha became the first state to align its policy with the central government's Semicon 2.0 initiative, offering an additional 25% fiscal support on capital expenditure for approved projects. Other key developments include the installation of SiC epitaxial wafer manufacturing reactors by RIR Power Electronics in Bhubaneswar and a new agreement with QuadQuantum for a silicon carbide substrate wafer facility. The state also approved a Rs 452-crore National Industry Co-Development Hub at IIT Bhubaneswar.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw praised the state's infrastructure and talent, noting that India is transitioning into a product nation with domestically designed chips now exported to Germany, Japan, China, and Switzerland. Simultaneously, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated commercial production at packaging facilities in Surat and Mohali. The broader India Semiconductor Mission has seen five of its initial twelve projects become operational, with the government expecting the industry to generate over 100,000 new jobs.
