G7 Releases 100 Million Barrels of Oil to Lower Prices

The G7 nations released 100 million barrels of oil to stabilize fuel prices, prompting Donald Trump to cancel a planned U.S. diesel ban.

The Group of Seven nations released 100 million barrels of oil to provide temporary relief for global fuel prices. The move triggered a price drop on Friday and led Donald Trump to abandon plans for a U.S. diesel ban as his administration attempts to lower pump prices before the November midterm elections.

Despite the release, diesel prices remain elevated due to shipping delays and refinery constraints. While crude exports through the Strait of Hormuz have nearly returned to pre-war levels, market stability is threatened by ongoing conflict in the Red Sea. Houthi rebels recently claimed to have targeted a Saudi Aramco facility in Riyadh.

In response to these disruptions, the Government of Saudi Arabia is considering a new military offensive in Yemen to regain control of the Bab el-Mandeb strait. Analysts note that the G7's price relief may be transitory, as the released stocks will eventually require replenishment.
