Trump Considers Military Bases in Venezuela to Secure Oil
President Donald Trump expressed openness to establishing U.S. military bases in Venezuela and South America to secure low-cost oil and expand regional influence.
President Donald Trump indicated he is open to establishing U.S. military bases in Venezuela or other South American nations. Speaking on the South Lawn of the White House, Trump stated the U.S. intends to replenish its national strategic reserves using Venezuelan oil purchased at low prices. This shift follows the arrest of former Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro and aligns with a broader U.S. strategy to dominate the Western Hemisphere known as the Donroe Doctrine.
The administration aims to displace the influence of Russia, China, and Iran in the region. These efforts coincide with a wider U.S. military expansion, including an agreement to build two bases in Greenland. Additionally, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced the construction of a new military base within the United States, marking the first such domestic project in 40 years.
