Uzbekistan Expands Economic Ties With Pakistan and Turkmenistan

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan is advancing strategic partnerships with regional neighbors to expand trade and logistics. In a meeting in Bishkek, Mirziyoyev and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif agreed to develop a joint roadmap to accelerate economic cooperation. The plan focuses on transitioning political dialogue into practical projects within the healthcare, pharmaceuticals, textiles, and agriculture sectors, while improving Uzbekistan's access to international markets through enhanced transport logistics.

Simultaneously, Uzbekistan is strengthening ties with Turkmenistan. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov sent congratulations to Mirziyoyev on the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan's independence, praising the nation's progress in statehood and international standing. This diplomatic gesture follows a period of intensified bilateral cooperation in trade and industry.

Economic activity between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan has grown significantly, with trade reaching $357.5 million in the first quarter of 2026. Recent operational milestones include the July launch of pilot cargo transit operations under the electronic eTIR system at the Turkmenbashi International Seaport, designed to streamline freight transport across Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
