Nvidia Corporation Invests $5 Billion in Safe Superintelligence Lab

Nvidia Corporation announced a $5 billion equity investment in Safe Superintelligence to provide the startup with massive compute capacity via the Vera Rubin GPU platform.

Nvidia Corporation and Safe Superintelligence Inc. (SSI) announced a long-term strategic partnership on July 27, 2026, featuring a $5 billion equity investment from the chipmaker. The deal provides SSI, founded by Ilya Sutskever and Daniel Levy, with access to the Vera Rubin GPU platform to scale its artificial intelligence research. SSI intends to use these resources to increase its compute capacity tenfold over the next 12 months, asserting that its current research has reached a point where it is worth scaling.

In exchange for the investment, the two companies will collaborate to advance Nvidia Corporation's compute platforms using research insights from SSI. Unlike many AI firms, SSI focuses on a "straight shot" approach to developing safe, aligned artificial superintelligence without releasing commercial products.

Following the announcement, Nvidia Corporation shares decreased by as much as 2.3%. Some critics noted the circular nature of the agreement, as the non-revenue-generating startup will use the investment to purchase hardware from its investor. The partnership was finalized within a few weeks of its inception.
