Representative Al Green Files Impeachment Articles Against Donald Trump

Representative Al Green introduced articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, alleging the president operated immigration agencies as unaccountable paramilitary police forces.

Representative Al Green of Texas introduced articles of impeachment, H.Res. 1486, against President Donald Trump on Monday, August 24, 2026. Green accused Trump of abuse of power and violating his oath of office by directing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to operate as vicious, quota-driven, and unaccountable paramilitary police forces.

The resolution cites four 2026 fatalities as evidence of an authoritarian regime where unjustified killings are normalized: U.S. citizens Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, and immigrants Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston and Johan Sebastian Duran Guerrero. Green claims these actions violate the First, Fourth, Fifth, and Fourteenth Amendments. This marks at least five attempts by Green to impeach the president, following previous efforts in 2017, 2019, 2025, and February 2026.

White House Spokeswoman Lauren Bis dismissed the resolution as garbage, stating that ICE and CBP officers are brave professionals who contributed to the largest decrease in violent crime in American history. A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson further characterized the move as reckless political theater. The filing occurs during Green's final term after he lost his Democratic primary runoff to Representative Christian Menefee.
