Former Trump Supporters Express Disapproval Ahead of Midterms
A segment of 2024 Trump voters now disapprove of his presidency, citing the war against Iran and the halted DOGE program.
A Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll reveals that approximately 22 percent of registered voters who supported Donald Trump in 2024 now disapprove of his job performance. This group represents about 8 percent of the total electorate, contributing to a broader trend where 66 percent of the general public expresses disapproval of the president.
Disaffected voters attribute their shift in sentiment to several key factors, including the war against Iran and the rising cost of living. Additionally, the halting of the government-slashing DOGE program led by Elon Musk has alienated a portion of the base. Some former supporters feel the president has failed to act in the best interests of ordinary Americans.
While some voters plan to switch their allegiance to Democratic candidates, such as Senator Jon Ossoff in Georgia, others remain reluctant to join the Democratic Party. These voters cite ongoing policy disagreements regarding abortion or general party loyalty as barriers to switching sides ahead of the midterm elections.
