South Korea Forecasts Record 478.6 Trillion Won Tax Revenue
South Korea expects record tax revenue of 478.6 trillion won in 2026, driven by a global semiconductor boom and increased chip profits.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance forecasts that South Korea's national tax revenue will reach a record 478.6 trillion won ($353 billion) in 2026. This figure represents a 28% increase from the previous year and exceeds the supplementary budget estimate by 63.2 trillion won, or 15.2%.
Government officials attribute the revenue surge to a global semiconductor boom, which has led to increased chip profits, special dividends, and higher stock trading volumes. This financial windfall provides significant support for the investment agenda of President Lee Jae Myung.
