Wang Yi Urges EU to Avoid Trade War

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged the European Union to avoid a trade war during a telephone conversation with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul on September 21. Wang characterized China and the EU as "comprehensive strategic partners" and advocated for the resolution of mutual concerns through dialogue and consultation rather than protectionism.

Wang called on Germany to maintain a rational and pragmatic approach to the relationship. He further encouraged the German government to influence the European Union to adhere to principles of open cooperation and free trade. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China issued official statements regarding Beijing's advocacy for rapprochement with Brussels following the call.
