Donald Trump Claims Iran Military Defeat Amid Ongoing War
President Donald Trump asserts Iran is failing badly and its military is defeated as the U.S. and Israel continue their war against the nation.
President Donald Trump stated on October 9 that Iran is failing badly, citing 300 percent inflation and a defeated military that lacks a functioning navy and air force. Speaking at a campaign rally in Tennessee, Trump claimed the United States has sunk 159 Iranian ships since the war began on February 28. He suggested the U.S. could end the conflict quickly, though he warned that Iran might increase aggressive actions before the November 3 midterm elections to harm the United States.
The conflict, launched by the U.S. and Israel, has expanded to include intensified fighting in Yemen and Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia. Iranian missile and drone strikes, along with the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz, have disrupted global energy supplies and increased prices. Trump suggested the possibility of renaming the waterway the Trump Strait.
Diplomatic efforts have struggled to gain traction. While Pakistan and Qatar mediated a framework agreement in June, implementation has stalled due to disputes over security and navigation. Trump noted that while Special Envoy Steve Witkoff is negotiating, a deal is not necessarily his preference. He left open the possibility of further military action but provided no specific timeline for new operations.
