Donald Trump Merchandise Ecosystem Generates Over $300 Million Annually
Donald Trump and his family earn millions from a vast retail ecosystem of official merchandise, sparking ethics concerns over conflicts of interest.
A market research firm estimates that Donald Trump has developed a retail ecosystem of official and unofficial merchandise worth over $300 million annually. The president and his family have personally earned millions through high-end products, including $2.8 million from gold watches and $1 million from guitars. Additionally, his re-election campaign raised $1.7 million from products themed after his mugshot.
While a network of third-party sellers operates independently, the Trump Organisation aggressively protects its trademarks. The organization recently secured a default judgment ordering 132 anonymous Asian sellers to pay $13.2 million in damages for trademark infringement.
Ethics watchdogs warn that utilizing the presidency to bolster a private brand creates significant conflicts of interest. White House counsel David Warrington has defended these dealings, stating that the president's business activities do not implicate his constitutional responsibilities.
