Amit Shah Offers Marathon Debate as Opposition Demands Resignation

Union Home Minister Amit Shah offered to participate in a marathon parliamentary session from 3:00 PM Wednesday until 3:00 PM Thursday to address allegations of police brutality against students during July 20 protests over the NEET paper leak. Shah challenged the opposition to submit a formal letter to the Speaker by 2:00 PM to initiate the debate, stating he is prepared to answer all questions and suspend the following day's Question Hour to facilitate the discussion.

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi rejected the offer, asserting that the opposition seeks concrete accountability rather than a lecture. Gandhi demanded to know who authorized the use of firearms and lathis with nails against students, stating that if Shah gave the order, he should resign. This standoff follows weeks of disruptions during the Monsoon Session, including an adjournment motion moved by Congress MP Manickam Tagore regarding the use of pellet guns and tear gas at Jantar Mantar.

Other opposition leaders have dismissed the government's offer as a face-saving exercise. Congress MP KC Venugopal accused the government of attempting to divert attention by linking the Delhi protests to agitations in Jharkhand. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut further demanded simultaneous discussions on the alleged theft of offerings at the Ram Temple and the police action against children, challenging Shah's image as a strong leader.
