ADC Urges National Assembly to Probe President Tinubu's Fitness

The African Democratic Congress demanded President Bola Tinubu's resignation, alleging he has lost control of the federal government to unelected interests.

The African Democratic Congress called on the National Assembly to determine if President Bola Tinubu is physically and mentally fit to remain in office. In statements released July 17, 2026, the opposition party alleged that the president has lost control of his government to unelected interests, asserting that he should resign if he cannot assert authority over his administration.

The party cited a leadership dispute at the Border Communities Development Agency as evidence of a governance crisis, noting that an official reportedly continued to occupy their office and meet with senior government officials despite a presidential directive for their removal. The ADC also pointed to the existence of an unofficial body called the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council and frequent policy reversals, including the suspension of the Cybersecurity and Expatriate Employment levies.

National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi urged the National Assembly to use its oversight powers to verify if the president's constitutional powers have been appropriated. The ADC maintains that these failures in executive control indicate a struggle for power within the presidency that renders the current leadership incapable of discharging its duties.
