Palantir CEO Alex Karp Claims AI Makes Mass Immigration Obsolete

During the 2026 World Economic Forum in Davos, Alex Karp, CEO of Palantir Technologies Inc., asserted that artificial intelligence will transform labor markets so profoundly that countries will no longer require mass immigration. Karp argued that while AI will disrupt white-collar and knowledge workers, it will increase the value of domestic vocational workers, such as plumbers and electricians, ensuring sufficient employment for national citizens.

Karp stated that large-scale immigration would only remain necessary for individuals with highly specialized skills. These views align with comments made by President Donald Trump at the same summit, where Trump highlighted the closure of the U.S. border and an economic turnaround. Other tech leaders, including Anduril Industries founder Palmer Lucky and Elon Musk, expressed similar skepticism toward mass unskilled migration.

In a discussion with BlackRock CEO Larry Fink, Karp described himself as a card-carrying progressive despite his views supporting Trump's agenda. Fink added that developed countries with shrinking populations could use robotics and AI to maintain or elevate living standards. Critics of these projections argue that automation cannot currently replace immigrant labor in critical sectors such as farming, service, and senior care.
